Many parents often find themselves in situations when they want to help their child but they feel afraid to make things worse if they interfere. It’s perfectly normal and natural for parents to want to protect their children, but there are some situations when they have to let them work things out themselves. We may only support them and teach them how to cope with different challenges so that they’ll be able to protect themselves in the future.
Viral Inspiral believes that these 7 rules will help your child become a happy and confident adult.
7. Learn to say “No.”
Problem: A classmate asks your child to let them cheat during a test. If your child agrees to help, the teacher will receive 2 identical answer sheets and will lower the grade for both students.
Solution: Explain to your child that they depreciate themselves and their own effort because they’ve spent a lot of time preparing for the test and someone wants to use their knowledge for their own benefit. To teach your child to say “no,” suggest that they reply with something along the lines of, “I haven’t finished yet. Don’t distract me.” Such a rational phrase will allow your child to feel confident and no one will be able to manipulate them.
