He’s back, guys. Joe Goldberg is back and ready to bring some darkness into your life.
Season 3 of the popular Netflix series, You, starring Penn Badgley as the main character, has wrapped up and in homage to the end of filming, we’re taking a look back at some of the teasers dropped over the past few months.
The first teaser photo was posted by the program’s showrunner, Sera Gamble back in February. Posting to Twitter, Gamble confirmed that production for the latest series had already begun despite the third season only being picked up by the streaming service just a month prior to the post.
Fast forward to now and we’ve had a whole bunch of other teasers in the pipeline including a snapshot of the obsessor himself, Penn Badgely sat on a personalized chair with the word “stalker” plastered on it in capital letters. Very fitting given the circumstances. That particular teaser came out in April when filming ended, but since then, things have gone quiet… A little too quiet for our liking.
Both the previous seasons of you had us on the edge of our seats as it followed the notorious Joe Goldberg who quickly becomes obsessed with 2 particular women. The first season told the story of the bookseller trying to win over Guinevere Beck, a beautiful and slightly gullible wannabe author. His obsession got to the point where he literally had control over every aspect of her life, including who she was friends with and where she goes, convincing himself he was doing it to “protect her”… If you can call trapping her in a glass box “protection.”
Season 2 sees a similar storyline but in the trendy city of Los Angeles. After everything that transpired with Beck, Joe was ready to leave it all behind and start a new life. Little did he know he was going to retrace the same pattern of obsession, but this time, with a woman that could match his psychotic tendencies. The glass box also makes a re-appearance (weirdly, enough) and again, we’re back at bloodshed and deception, all in the name of love.
Whew! So after all that, you would think Joe’s learned his lesson but if the teaser at the end of Season 2 is anything to go by, then probably not. However, Season 3 promises to leave the city and hit the suburbs, with a strange twist, of course.
An official release date has not yet been confirmed but reports have stated that it will be hitting our screens at the end of the year.
We’ll just have to wait to see what’s in store for us, but regardless, I’m sure it’s going to be good.
